Doris Dean Harrison Devaney – Obituary

Doris Dean Harrison Devaney, age 75, passed away at UAB Hospital on Thursday, January 12, 2017 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Doris graduated from Coffee High School in 1959. She was retired from the First National Bank of Florence & SunTrust Bank after 37 years of loyal service. Doris still reminisced about all her banking friends she still held dear to her heart. One of Doris’s greatest joys was being a member of and attending Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, especially being a part of her Sunday School class. Doris was an avid fan of all sports, especially Alabama football. To watch a sporting event with her was a truly enjoyable experience.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 14th from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at 3:30 p.m. Kenny Windsor and Gary Devaney will be officiating.
Interment will follow in Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery.

Doris was preceded in death be the love of her life, William E. (Bill) Devaney in May 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Herby G. Harrison, Sr. and Viola Cobb Harrison; half brothers; Earl, Ross, Buddy, and Jimmy Harrison; half sisters; Blanch Jackson. Lucille Austin, Lois McCabe, and Katie Watson.

Her survivors are brothers; Kenneth (Marion) Harrison, J.B. (Marcille) Harrison, Herby (Ann) Harrison; and sister: Margaret (Junior) Hall; seven nieces and nephews, and twelve great nieces and nephews, who were her pride and joy. Doris is also survived by her late husband’s children and grandchild; Gary (Tommie Kay) Devaney, Pam (Russ) Spangler, and Callie Devaney.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Duane Keener, Harold Hall, Conner Hall, Jeff Hale, Phillip Darby and Johnny Devaney. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of Doris’s Sunday School class.

A special thanks to Dr. Danny McFall for his years of care and concern for Doris and Bill.
