Funeral services for Mrs. Dora B Wheeles, age 89, of Ashland will be held on Monday January 8, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Big Springs Baptist Church, with Dr. Albert Pike officiating, burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Wheeles graduated from Mellow Valley High School then worked at several sewing plants including Good Line Apparel, Higgins Mfg, and Southland, before beginning her career with the State of Alabama at the Clay County Health Department. Dora worked there over 21 years before her retirement. She was known to serve there in many different capacities. She was also a member of Big Springs Baptist Church.
She was survived by her daughters, Becky McCain of Ashland and Judy Meigs of Lineville; grandchildren, Brian Taylor (Jennifer) of Suwanee, Ga, Dora Jean Schooler (Terry) of Fairfax, VA, and Rachael Patterson (James) of Oxford; seven great grandchildren; and a brother Troy Mitchell (LaJune) of Birmingham.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ulmond Mitchell and Elera Suggs Mitchell, her husband Jack T. Wheeles, two daughters Dora Ann Morris and Sandra Wheeles, one son Jack Thomas Wheeles Jr. and one sister Sara Bolan.
Active pallbearers will be James Patterson, Brian Taylor, Jackson Wyatt, Aidan Taylor, and Gerald Burdette.
The Family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Sunday January 7, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and until one hour prior to service time on Monday. She will lie in state at the church for one hour.
