TENNESSEE VALLEY-Cold weather is coming! TVA’s EnergyRight is asking What’s in Your Attic? TVA EnergyRight has extended its rebate program that gives homeowners $500 in cash for bringing their attic insulation up to current building codes. That rebate is now available through Sept. 30, 2025.
Many contractors are offering HVAC tune-ups this fall. Prices typically range from $49-$150, depending on the location and company. TVA will pay homeowners a $50 rebate – per heat pump or central air conditioning unit – to get their HVAC system inspected by a TVA Quality Contractor HVAC professional to make sure it’s ready for winter. These licensed and insured professionals are trained on TVA standards and understand the benefits of home energy efficiency. Getting your HVAC checked will prolong the life of the unit and save you money on your energy bill because it will be running at maximum efficiency. If you need to replace your unit, TVA is offering rebates of up to $1,500 on qualifying equipment.
This is important because heating your home is about 50% of your power bill. One of our energy experts, Ashley England, is available for interviews today via phone and/or Zoom recording until 1:00pm and again, from 3:30-4:30pm. You may also use this quote by England:
“This winter about half of the energy you use each month will be to heat your home,” said Ashley England, TVA Home Energy Expert. “Getting your HVAC system tuned up by a professional is one of the best ways to save money this winter. We encourage everyone to take advantage of our energy-saving programs at energyright.com to save money and be a smarter energy consumer.”
TVA has been investing $1.5 billion in energy efficiency since Oct. 2023, helping about 54,000 homes and businesses save over $328 million on their electric bills over the life of their energy improvements. Below, you’ll find more ways to save money on your power bills:
- Lower your home’s thermostat a few degrees. Each degree will save about 3% on your power bill.
- Open your blinds or curtains on sunny winter days to let the sunshine into your home.
- Seal gaps around windows and doors to prevent cold air from entering.
- Lower the temperature on your water heater to between 120 and 125 degrees.
- Change your furnace filters monthly, new filters can save on energy costs and improve home air quality.
- Run ceiling fans clockwise to push warm air down to where you can feel it.
