Donald Russell Simms, 94, of Huntsville, passed away on February 21, 2024. Don is survived by his children, Diana Styles (James), Linda Osmer and David Simms (Jennifer); eleven grandchildren, Mary Steakley, Donald Simms, Cori Chase, Elizabeth Key, Charlotte Johansson, Patrick Osmer, Rachel Matheny, John Simms, William Simms, Jesse Simms, and Abigail Simms; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Mary Morse Simms; his son, Donald Simms, Jr.; his parents, Leonard and Pearl Simms; his brothers, Leonard Simms and John Simms; and his sisters, Velda Simms and Lorraine Sharp.
Don was born July 27, 1929, in South Wilmington, Illinois. He retired in 1985 after thirty years in civil service as a procurement officer with the United States Army Missile Command. In his free time, he enjoyed running, playing golf with his church friends, and gardening. Don spent his life serving and encouraging others. He was incredibly generous and a man of great integrity. Don deeply loved the Lord and his church, serving as an elder and teacher at Covenant Presbyterian. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a supportive grandfather and great-grandfather.
A graveside service will be held on March 2, 2024, at 11:00 am at Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, Alabama.
