donyDonald Moore Phillips (Donny), 68, of Florence, Alabama passed from this life at his home on October 7, 2013.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 1 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Robert Bevis and Roger Houston officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Rachel Lucille Phillips, brothers, Leon Phillips and David Phillips. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jean Cannon Phillips, who has been by his side through all the sickness, surgeries, good times and bad. He is also survived by his son Brad Phillips (Karie) and grandson, Jack Carson Phillips, who has been his little angel and light of his life. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Phillips, of Florence, Alabama, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. We would like to say a special thanks to his nephew, Don Phillips, for all of his help.

Donny was a member of Central Heights Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Central High School, TVA pipefitters apprentice program and served in the Army National Guard. He worked for the Corp of Engineers building the Natchez Trace Parkway and the initial construction of Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant until 1975. He retired from Reynolds Alloys and was a loyal 43 year member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 760, Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Over the years, he devoted countless hours coaching baseball and being President of the Central Dixie Youth League. Donny was a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather. During the last seven years of this life, his main job was spending time with his grandson, Jack Carson, teaching him how to play ball, fix things, fish and numerous other things. His true passion was fishing, especially with Brad and Jack Carson. His wisdom, compassion, love and willingness to help others will be greatly missed.

Pallbearers will be Jack Carson and Brad Phillips, Herby Harrison, James T. Russell, George Cooper, Presley Williams, Hal Phillips, Don Phillips, Bart Cannon, and Chris May.
Honorary pallbearers will include Harold Phillips, Don Huckaba, Gaylon Holden, Bill Tompkins, Bobby Hendon, Jim May, Spero Tryphonas, Bill Moore, Pete Peeden and Coy Cannon.

A special thanks to Hospice of the Shoals for all of their care.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make donations, in memory of Donny, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101.
