Donald Lynn Fanning, age 88 of Winchester, passed away on August 12, 2024, at the Elk River Health and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester. He was born in the Maxwell Community in Franklin County, to the late Jesse Granville Fanning and Vannie Mae Collins. Donald graduated high school in New Mexico and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Wyoming. He entered the United States Air Force in 1956 and retired in 1989 as a Lieutenant Colonel at Langley Air Force Base. Donald moved back to Winchester in 1990. He enjoyed woodworking, reading and studying history, and was a very good bowler that was a part of several leagues. Donald was always known for his great sense of humor and his kind and caring soul. He would give the shirt off his back to help any in need. He was a member of the Good Shepard Catholic Church and built several wooden items in the church. In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his siblings, Edna Trott, Jo Wallingford, Jewell Shelton, Brownie Andrews, Billie Mae, Jesse Fanning Jr., Nelda Appleyard, Mary Charles, Harry Fanning; and sons-in-law, William Hayes and Gregory Kimura. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Carol Fanning; children, Angela (Fred) Yells, Beatrice Fanning (Dovalyn Hiram), Eileen (Kevin) Cox, Franklin (Erin) Fanning, Gabriella Hayes, Harry (Paula) Fanning; grandchildren, Stephanie, Donald, Eryn, Kasperi, Bryn, Brody, Corey, Padraic, Brigid, Connor, Dominic, and Trevor; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Ember; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 5pm-8pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00am on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Pastor Tom McGehee officiating. Interment will take place at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
