Donald Eugene “Gene” Houston was called unto his heavenly home on September 14, 2024. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and follower of Jesus Christ. He was born on September 22, 1947, to Colonel Eugene Houston and his wife, Clyde Elanor Hulsey Houston. He was the oldest of their four children. He grew up in the Friendship Community near Oxford, AL. He attended Oxford High School and was a graduate of the class of 1965. In 1979, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University.
On December 3, 1965, he married the love of his life, Stella Ann Fleming Houston. Two years later, on September 7, 1967, he became a father to Derick Eugene Houston. From 1967 to 1969, he served his country as a Sargent in the United States Army. In 1972, he began his career as a Game Warden with the State of Alabama. This career would see him serve Calhoun County, Hale County, and later Montgomery County as the Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement of the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. He served the State of Alabama for thirty-two years until his retirement in 2004.
After retiring he enjoyed woodcarving, hunting, and fishing; especially when it involved his grandsons Noah and Micah Houston.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents Colonel Eugene Houston and Clyde Elanor Houston.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Stella Fleming Houston, his son, Derick Eugene (Sharon) Houston, his grandchildren, Noah Houston, and Micah (Regan) Houston. Also his siblings, Belvia Lou (David) Bradsma, and Eddie (Terri) Houston and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank ProHealth Hospice for their care and support. In lieu of Flowers, The family requests donations be made in Donald’s memory to the “Forever Wild Land Trust”
