Donald Erskine Smith, age 82, Haleyville, Alabama, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014. He was born in Florence, Alabama. He served in the United States Navy, was a retired forester and a member and had served as an elder for over 30 years at Ninth Avenue Church of Christ in Haleyville.
His visitation will be on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, from 10-11:30 a.m., at Ninth Avenue Church of Christ in Haleyville, Alabama, with his funeral to follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church, with Bill Dorriety and Andy Kizer officiating, with burial in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers, Jay Grafton Dowdy, William Garrett Dowdy, Drew Erskin Smith, Lee Davis, Hunter Rodgers and Will Weaver.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Sharline Sandlin Smith; children, Donna Sharline Smith (Alan) Kay, Darrell Bruce (Jennifer) Smith and Dana Leigh Smith (Herb) Dowdy; grandchildren, Laura Lynne Kay (Lee) Davis, Leah Daryl Kay (Hunter) Rodgers, Jay Grafton Dowdy, William Garrett Dowdy, Shelby Lyn Smith, Taylor Leigh Smith and Drew Erskin Smith; great-grandchildren, Blair Campbell Davis and Leah Paige Davis; siblings, Ronald Edward (Barbara) Smith, Letha Ann Smith and Larry Mac (Hilda) Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, S.B. and Eula Mae Carter Smith, sister and brother-in-law, Peggy Jean Smith (Gerald) Wade.
