Donald “El Paso” Neal Powell, 73, of Owens Cross Roads, passed away Wednesday.

Donald, a native of Kentucky, spent over 40 years in the sunny state of Florida before embracing a new chapter in Alabama 6 years ago. During his time in Florida, he dedicated 30 years to working as a car salesman in Bradenton, Sarasota, and Venice. Aside from his professional life, Donald was deeply passionate about fishing, NASCAR, and football. Known for his quick wit and generous nature, he always had a joke at the ready and had a way of making everyone feel like an old friend. Beyond his hobbies and social life, he was an avid audiophile and gun enthusiast. Donald was an active and dedicated member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church and made it a ritual to solve the morning crossword puzzle each day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvis and Rebecca, and brothers, Gene and Jerry.

Surviving are wife, Kimberly Powell; daughter, Laura Minyard (Jesse); grandson, Gavin Powell (Victoria Anders) and granddaughter, Chloe Brace.

A memorial service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held at the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, a place he held dear, on Saturday, June 15, at 1 pm. The service will be officiated by Bro. George Denmark, a close friend of Donald’s.
