Donald “Don” Ray Brooks, age 83, of Huntsville, AL, died Wednesday the 11th of May 2022. Don was born in Huntsville, AL to Donnie and Irene Brooks. Don graduated from Butler High School and soon after joined the Air Force where he spent time in Tripoli, North Africa; Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Savannah, Georgia. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force in May of 1963, Don worked in the Communications Directorate at Redstone Arsenal, then Don decided to pursue his lifelong dream and went into the bass and sport boat manufacturing business as the owner of Stryker Boats in Huntsville.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Larry and Bill Brooks of Huntsville; and sister, Debra Pamplin of Huntsville. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Georgia Price Brooks. Also surviving Don are children: Greg (Vicky) Brooks, Jay Brooks, Page (Jeff) Rowe; grandchildren: Wesley (Chelsy) Brooks, Jessica Brooks, Will Brooks, Whitney Foster, Trey (Cora) Foster, Anna-Price Slagle; great-grandchildren: Gage Randall, Olivia Foster, Charlotte Foster, Madeline Foster, Bentley Brooks, Layla Brooks; brother: Carl Brooks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was an avid Alabama sports fan and loved bass fishing. He once unexpectedly caught a 54-pound catfish when fishing. His true love was spending time with his family and friends. Don requested to be cremated. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Sunday the 15th of May at Laughlin Funeral Home in Huntsville AL from 10-12.
