Obituary of Dominga "Gigi" Fontanez Mrs. Dominga ‘Giga’ Fontanez went home to be with Our Lord and Savior on Wednesday 1 January 2025.

She passed away surrounded by her family in her home in Athens, Alabama. Mrs. Fontanez was born on 6 June 1943 to Reverend Herbert Hernandez and Mrs. Dominga Hernandez in Humacao Puerto Rico US, one of 12 children. Mrs. Fontanez was an amazing woman, a loving wife, a godly mother, caring grandmother and compassionate caregiver who loved Jesus with all her heart. She was a pillar of faith to her family, a fervent prayer warrior whose unwavering belief in God has left a lasting legacy for generations to come. She taught her children to live righteous lives, to share the love of Christ with everyone and to pray without ceasing. She was a spiritual force to be reckoned with, servant of the Living God! Mrs. Fontanez taught those around her how to be strong, a helper for those who could not advocate for themselves, imparting Godly wisdom along the way. A scripture verse she shared with those seeking to know Jesus was John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Mrs. Fontanez is preceded by her son, Mark Fontanez, and survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Josue Fontanez of Athens Alabama; her five children, Paul (Tamara), Rhoda, Leah, Noah (Stephanie) and Jonathan (Michelle); her twenty two grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joshua, Matthew, Elijah, Rebekah, Deborah, David, Esther, Marion, Joshua, Caleb, Noah, Mariah, Joseph, Bella, Jacob, Hanna, Gabriel, Lauren, Abigail, Andrew and Anna; and five great-grandchildren Sadie, Gabriel, Daniel, Isaiah and Elliot. She is also survived by her siblings Gladys, Franciso, Ramon, Eliseo, Samuel, Virginia, Doris, Lourdes, Herminio, Esther.

A funeral will be held at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens Alabama at 2pm on Saturday 4 January 2025 with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Mrs. Fontanez loved Jesus with all of her heart and is in the presence of the Lord. She will be sorely missed.
