Services for Dolores S. Miller will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Jackson, TN. The family will receive visitors before the service at 9:30 a.m.
Dolores Nellie Miller was born on September 13, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois. She died in Memphis, TN on January 12, 2017. Dolores’ parents were Henry Mack Schwartz and Gertrude Steinbacher Schwartz. Dolores (Dee) married her high school sweetheart, Thomas (Tom) Paul Miller Sr., and they were married for 64 years. Dee and Tom moved to Jackson, TN in 1964 and together they raised 10 children.
Dolores was an only child. She loved children and enjoyed her grandchildren. She was an avid and incredible cook, retired realtor, bridge player, and loved the theatre. Dolores was active in the Dyslexia Foundation and volunteered countless hours to bring awareness and change in educating our children in Jackson. She loved her church groups at St. Mary’s and the fellowship they provided each other. Dolores was adventurous, quick witted, and always could make you laugh. Dolores loved to paint and was very talented artistically. She will be remembered for her sense of style, especially how she loved to wear hats, her love of big cities and travel, but most importantly her love for her church and children.
Dolores was fondly known as “Momma Dee” and was greatly loved by her children and grandchildren. Dolores is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Paul Miller, Sr. and two sons: Mathew Joseph Miller and Thomas Paul Miller, Jr.
Dolores is survived by her children: Paul Douglas Miller and his wife Linda of Jackson, TN, Pam Miller Hall and husband Keith of Chattanooga, TN, Christine Miller Reid and husband Steve of Albuquerque, NM, Julie Miller Barnhart and husband Frank of Raleigh, NC, Mark Henry Miller and his wife Keiko of Tokyo, Japan, Margo Miller Henderson and her husband Tom of Memphis, TN, Dolores (Dede) Miller Williams and her husband Moody of Marietta, GA, Penelope (Penny) Miller Monaghan and husband Dave of Wrightsville Beach, NC, and daughter in law Anne Miller of Guntersville, AL.
Grandchildren are Paula Ray and husband Tim, Douglas Miller, Sanders Hall and wife Anna, Miller Hall, Nathan Hall, Theresa Hall, Elizabeth Reid, Margo Higgins and husband John, Ben Miller and wife Lynna, Thomas Miller, Franklin Barnhart, Caleb Barnhart, Alex Miller, Max Miller, Rand Martindale, Miles Martindale and wife Brooke, Austin Martindale, Miller Martindale, Alan Henderson, Collier Henderson, Mary Grace Williams, and Sam Williams. She also leaves five great grandchildren. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that a memorial contribution be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
