Dolores Ann Thompson Sparks

Dolores Ann Thompson Sparks, 77, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024 at her residence. She was born in Red Bay, AL to Fred Nabers Thompson and Nell Wilson Thompson. She attended the University of Alabama and University of North Alabama. After teaching for more than forty years, she retired at the high school and collegiate level. She touched many lives with her love of math and was always ready to help those needing help to understand math concepts. She enjoyed traveling, Alabama sports, card games and never wanted to miss a family event or activity. She was a member of Red Bay First United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in Walk to Emmaus.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 17, at 1 p.m. at Red Bay First United Methodist Church with Dallas Culver officiating. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by three children, Deanna Browning (Chad), Freda Morrow (Chad) and Stan Sparks (Brendi); grandchildren, Stanton Sparks, Shannon Sparks, Logan Browning and Dylan Browning; two sisters, Susan Ledbetter (Harold) and Janet Kennedy (Keith) and nephews, Hal Ledbetter (Amanda), James Ledbetter (Brandi), Brad Thompson (Amy), Kreg Kennedy and Kurt Kennedy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Tommy Thompson and husband, Charles Sparks.

Pallbearers will be Hal Ledbetter, James Ledbetter, Brad Thompson, Kreg Kennedy, Kurt Kennedy, Stanton Sparks, Logan Browning and Dylan Browning. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Kennedy and Harold Ledbetter.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 16, 5-8 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL and she will lie in state Monday, June 17, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Red Bay First United Methodist Church.
