Mrs. Dollie Juanita Ragland Thompson was born in Brownsboro, Madison County, Alabama on July 21, 1951. She was one of nine children born to the union of the late Sam and Lucy Jane Ragland. Four of her siblings preceded her in death: Randolph Ragland, Jimmie Doris Payne, Sherman Ragland and Tracy Ragland.
Dollie grew up in the Brownsboro community and attended Brownsboro Elementary School, Councill Training High School and graduated from Buckborn High School in 1972. She was an active member of the Hurricane Chapel Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and serving on the Mothers’ Board. She was employed for many years at SCI and then took a break to raise her family, later returning to the workforce at CINRAM.
She married the love of her life, Willie Lee Thompson, on September 21, 1972 and to this blessed union four sons were born. A son, Lawrence, the twin of Leonard, preceded her in death. Dollie enjoyed reading, working word search puzzles and watching her favorite TV show “Gunsmoke.” She blessed her family with singing hymns as she worked and moved throughout the home.
Memories of Dollie will be cherished by her husband: Willie Lee Thompson; sons: Derrick Lee (Casey), Leonard, and Robert Lee (Daphne) Thompson; grandchildren: Taurean, Teighan Ne’cole and Landyn; two sisters: Mary Ann Kelly and Lou Ella Ragland; two brothers: Eddie Ragland and Johnny Ragland; and a host of other relatives, family and friends.
Graveside service will be 12:00 noon, Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Saint Ruth Cemetery (330 Grimwood Road Hazel Green, AL 35750) with Minister Eddie Ragland officiating.
The Thompson family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Royal Chapel of Memories.
Public viewing will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2024 and 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
