Dollie Baker Cooper, age 92, of Gadsden, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. Funeral service will be at 2pm Friday, October 29, 2021 at Collier Butler Chapel. Brian Ware will officiate with special music by Patricia Brown. The family will receive friends on Friday, one hour prior. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Collier Butler Funeral Home will direct services. Dollie was born September 9, 1929 to Bert and Ida Baker in Hartselle, AL. and grew up in Owens Cross Roads, AL. She graduated from New Hope High School in Madison County in 1947 and married her high school sweetheart, Neil Cooper on October 14, 1947. They moved to Gadsden in 1948. Together they had two sons, Bobby and Terry. Dollie attended Gadsden Business College and spent 28 years working in the field of dentistry as a licensed dental Hygienist, office manager, and receptionist. She retired after working 11 years with Dr. Michael Maddox. She was a devoted member of West End Baptist Church in the Walnut Park Community, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was WMU Director. Dollie had served as chairperson of the Alabama Business Women’s Association and the Etowah County Democratic Women’s Club and was recognized as “Outstanding Woman of the Year” by each organization. In 2015 she received the “Distinguished Service Award” from the Etowah County Democratic Women’s Club. She served as an election day volunteer for many years. Dollie was an avid seamstress making quilts, clothes, and dolls to give as gifts. She also loved baking pies and goodies for friends, especially fried apple pies and cheese straws. Her life motto was”It’s always better to give than to receive”. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Emmett, Leonard, James, Ollie Bert (her twin), and W.C. (Doris) Baker; and sisters Lottie Treece and Lola Hinkle She is survived by her husband of 74 years Neil Cooper; sons Bobby Cooper (the late Yvonne Snyder Cooper) and Terry Cooper (Sheila); grandchildren Bradlie Ware (Brian), Terry Cooper, Jr.(Brandy), Patrick Cooper (Haley), and Andrea Cook (Walker); great grandchildren Derrick Bowling, Jr. (Kelsey), Phoenix Cooper, Cooper Cook, Livy Kate Cook, Parker Cook, Lyla Weaver, Bella Williams, Brianna Holderfield (Scott), Austin Ware, and Tanner Ware; great great grandchildren Crimson Holderfield, Lane Holderfield, and Gabrielle Ware; numerous special nieces and nephews; her best friend and sister in law Jonnie Cooper; devoted friends Patricia and Lafayette Brown, Dianna Busby, and Dr. Barbara Bryant. Pallbearers will be Terry Cooper Jr., Patrick Cooper, Derrick Bowling, Jr., Cooper Cook, Michael Cooper and Ronnie Baker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Baker, Brian Ware, Walker Cook and Dr. Michael Maddox. Special thanks to Jordan, Brandy, and Chastas with ABC Hospice and Kim.
