Dewey Gary “Colonel” Sanders, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at North Al. Medical Center, Florence, AL. He was born in Franklin County, AL to Ralph and Ruby Sanders. He worked as a mechanic in his earlier years and then spent twenty-three years at Tiffin Motor Homes from 1972-1995 before retiring. He enjoyed working on cars and trucks in his spare time. He was always happy to talk about vehicles with others and help when he could. He married the love of his life, Ella Mae Mink, on June 8, 1963 until her passing on January 7, 2020.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 12, 1:00 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL with Bro. Billy Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Atwood, AL. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by a son, Larry Wayne Sanders (Marsha); a grandson, Larry Blake Sanders (Ellen); a great-granddaughter, Sophia Rose Sanders; cousins, nieces and nephews and he leaves behind a special close friend, Joyce Orrick.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister, Carolyn Denton and a brother, Clark Sanders.
Pallbearers will be Blake Sanders, Randy Sanders, Tim Sanders, Terry Hardin, T.J. Hardin and Dylan Hardin. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Behel, Phillip Weaver, Allon Weaver, Wade Inmon, Michael Williams, Keith Denton, Kevin Denton, Terry Sparks, Jeff Trapp and Larry Trapp.
Special thanks to neighbors, Tony and Jennifer Behel for all the help over the years, with not only Mr. Gary, but also Ms. Ella.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 6-8 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL.
