Dewey Cooper, 75, of Phil Campbell, Alabama, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012, at his residence. Mr. Cooper lived his entire life in Franklin County and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Phil Campbell. Mr. Cooper was retired as a custodian at Phil Campbell High School. He also worked at U..S. Reduction, the Phil Campbell Water Department, the Phil Campbell Housing Authority and the Phil Campbell Chevron Station. He was a member and former chief of the Phil Campbell Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Phil Campbell Rescue Squad. He served as a member of the Phil Campbell City Council for 30 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a pillar of the community and will be greatly missed by all. The funeral service will be Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel, Russellville, with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery. Officiating will be Sammy Taylor and Greg Beasley. The family received friends at the funeral home Monday. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Cooper (Margaret), Jerry Cooper (Shunta), Keith Cooper (Lisa), Kerry Cooper (Christy), Rodney Cooper (Brenda); brother, James Kenneth Cooper, Pensacola, Florida; sister, Jean Voncille Cooper Fisher, Tharptown; grandchildren, Chris, Jason, and Amanda Cooper, Skyler Cooper, Casey Bonner, Tasia Cooper, Andrea Hicks, Leah Cooper, Tyler and Tristan Godsey, Michiah and Iliana Cooper; great-grandchildren, Morgan Joyce Hicks, Jackson Bryant Cooper, Zadie Madeline and Logan Brett Cooper. Pallbearers will be Steven Cooper, Byron Cooper, Joe Cooper, Glen Cooper, Thelan Lacey, Justin Fisher, and Rodney Ergle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Joyce Frederick Cooper; parents, Ledger Wheeler and Dora Myrtle Pounders Cooper; brothers, Jerry and Hugh Don Cooper.
