Funeral service for Major Dennis P. Bryant, 79, will be Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens.  Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.

Mr. Bryant passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, surrounded by those he loved. He was born April 2, 1944, in Morgan County to Henry F. Bryant and Bertha True Venable Bryant, who preceded him in death.

He was a member of the graduating class of 1962 from Sheffield High School. He received his BS degree from the University of North Alabama in 1967 and his Masters degree from UNA in 1968. He received his AA and PhD from the University of Alabama.

While at UNA, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Burns and they were happily married for 57 years.

Mr. Bryant was very proud of his military service to his country. He served in Vietnam with the 1st Calvary Division and the 81st Radio Research Division. He was a member of the Army Security Agency. After leaving full time service, he remained in the United States Army Reserves for 18 years. After which, Mr. Bryant worked for 30 years in education and owned several businesses. His longest business affiliation was FinInn Tropical Fish. He was a 6th grade teacher at Powell Elementary School in Florence, Alabama, then was an Assistant Principal at Westlawn Middle School and Central High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was a Principal of Courtland Elementary School in Courtland, Alabama and as Principal of Eastwood Middle School in Tuscaloosa for 18 years.

Mr. Bryant was a man who loved life and learning. He was an avid reader and researcher. He had numerous hobbies and collections, all of which made him an expert in cataloguing. He was a world traveler and enjoyed the history behind his travels. He needed little sleep and could hardly wait to see what joy each day would bring.

He loved his family, especially his daughter, Kimberly and was happiest when he was with family.

Sisters – Patricia Bryant Hartley
Angela Bryant Hendrix

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
