Funeral Services for Mr. Dennis “Moose” Browning, age 76 of Ashland, will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Richie Farrow officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Browning passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden. Mr. Browning was a lifelong resident of Clay County and a graduate of Clay County High School. After High School, Mr. Browning worked for Alabama Power, Williamson Lumber as a skid steer operator and did brush clearing, and also drove for the State Lumber Company with Joe and Dean Mattox for some time. Eventually, “Moose” became self-employed and operated D & G Trucking for over 25 years. When he wasn’t driving for his company, you could find him at home, working on his trucks or fishing with his family. Mr. Browning loved going to the beach and spending quality time with his family. He was a sweet, kind soul who was always willing to help someone in need, and was a man that the younger generation could look up to.
Mr. Browning is survived by his wife of 52 years, Grovene Powell Browning; his daughter, Melissa Johnson (Seth); his son, Greg Browning, all of Ashland; 6 grandchildren: Austin Johnson (Jordan), Andrea Smith (Brandon), Holly Wheeles (Garrett), Ben Johnson, Lane Browning (Lauren), and Lauren Heath; 5 great-grandchildren: Elijah, Declan, Riggs, Addison, and Liam; two sisters: Jean Culberson (Art) of Groveland, FL, and Carol Hallman (Hubert) of Ashland, plus a large extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Norman and Kathleen Young Browning, and his grandson-in-law, Cain Heath.
Active Pallbearers will be Lane Browning, Kyle Joiner, Austin Johnson, Ben Johnson, Brandon Smith, and Garrett Wheeles.
His visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. He will remain at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M.
