Dr. Dennis A. Brown, 94 of Arab passed away Monday, July 1, 2024 at his residence. He was born February 14, 1930 in Covington, Kentucky, the son of Clifford T. Brown and Nellie Marie Plummer Brown. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He received his bachelor’s degree from Xavier University and his doctorate from the University of Louisville. He met the love of his life, Nan Bodine Brown, in Nashville, Tennessee while she was pursuing her nursing degree at St. Thomas School of Nursing. They married in 1958 and started life together in Covington, Kentucky. In 1970 they moved to Arab, where he worked as a Radiologist at the Old Arab Hospital, later Marshall Medical Center North. He attended St. William Catholic Church, enjoyed playing golf, woodworking and history. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Pamela (Mark) Williams, Nancy (Matthew) Montegut, Betsy (Bill) Garvis, Linda (Roger) Blackmon and Susan (Joe) Deal; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: Nan Brown; daughter: Bardie Brown; grandson: William Dennis Garvis; his parents: Clifford and Nellie Marie Brown; siblings: Lorraine VonHagel, Clifford “Buddy” Brown and Patricia “Patty” Haas.
A Mass of Christian Burial was said at Saint William Catholic Church – Foley Center, Guntersville, Alabama, Tuesday July 2, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., celebrant was Father Mark Spruell. The burial with military honors followed at Arab Memorial Cemetery, Gober Funeral Chapel directing.
