Delmer Hanners Jr. A Celebration of Life for Delmer Hanners, Jr., will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 7098 Highway 9, Heflin, AL. Bros. Tommy Carr and Mark Cooper will officiate.
Delmer Hanners, Jr., age 73 of Heflin, AL, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022, after an extended illness. He was born on December 28, 1948, in Clay County, AL. He married the love of his life, Terry Coggins, in 1984. Delmer was a 1968 graduate of Clay County High School, Ashland, AL. Upon graduation from high school, Delmer became employed by what is now known as Century Link Telephone Company. He was a dedicated employee for 30 years and worked an additional 8 years as a contract worker. In the early 1980s, Delmer enjoyed Dirt Track Racing at Hollis Crossroads Dirt Track, Heflin, AL. He was also an avid sportsman who especially enjoyed deer hunting, amassing numerous deer (buck) trophies. He was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church, Wedowee, AL.
Delmer is preceded in death by his parents, Daisy McCain Hanners and Delmer Hanners, Sr., of Ashland, AL; his in-laws, Marvin J. Coggins and Geralene (Jerri) Coggins Garner Kennedy of Heflin, AL; sisters, Frances Hanners Emory of Wetumpka, AL, and Rebecca Ann Hanners Seymour of Ashland, AL; sister-in-law, Patricia S. Hanners of Ashland, AL; brother-in-law, Wayne Coggins of Anniston, AL; and son-in-law, Danny Shane Payne of Heflin, AL.
Delmer is survived by his loving wife, Terry Coggins Hanners; his son, Lance Hanners (Connie); his daughters, Marsha Hanners, Carri Kimbrell Lambert (Chris), and Kimberly Kimbrell Payne; brother, Randy Hanners; sister, Gail Hanners Bowen (Terry); sister-in-law, Deborah Coggins DuHon (Kenneth). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Drew Cadle, Caleb Lambert, Colton Payne, Catelyn Lambert (Issac Moa), Cheyenne Payne, Hayden Lindsey, Santana Clark (Magnus), Chloe Lambert, Carly Pugh, Lucas Pugh; and great grandchildren, Jaxon Cadle, Kayden Cadle, Luanna Lambert and Asher Clark.
Delmer will be remembered by his family and friends as a friendly, warm person, who always had a story to tell. He loved people, never met a stranger, and was glad to help anyone.
