Dellie Mildred Wardlaw Maharrey, a wonderful, sweet soul, departed this life for her home in eternity at the ripe old age of 92. “Miss” Dellie had resided at Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home in Okolona for the last 10 years. Born in Itawamba Co. on June 26, 1932 to the late A. Lester Wardlaw and Reba Parham Wardlaw, she grew up there but lived all her adult life in Chickasaw Co. On August 26, 1953, she married Bennie Edward “Lum” Maharry, who died Sept 2, 1999. Dellie was a master seamstress all her life and enjoyed nothing more than her sewing machine! She spent her public life as a seamstress for Futorian Mfg. in Okolona, she had previously worked for Meadow Sportswear. The last years of her life were spent as a private seamstress. She literally clothed her family and countless thousands of other with extreme skill and detail. Dellie loved people, loved her family supremely and was a delight to be around. Her sterling personality was encouraging to others and she never met a stranger. A great cook, she was known especially for her chicken and dumplings and dressing and potato pancakes.

“Miss” Dellie loved her God and her church, the Gatlin St. Church of Christ. A strong, independent lady, she loved being cared for at Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home the last almost 11 years of her life. She often called the staff there her “second” family.

A service celebrating Dellie’s Life will be held on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024 at 2 PM in the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona with Minister Mickey Beam officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from Noon-service time Friday only.

Dellie is survived by two sons, Ben Maharrey (Paula) of Florence, AL, and Donald Ray Maharrey (Sherry) of Wren; one daughter, Wanda Hicks of Brewer; one sister “Aunt” Jessie Moncatch of Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin, 10 grandchildren, Michael Haskett (Megan), Brandie Wise (Doug), Trey Maharrey (Brianna, Sarah King (Jay), Amanda Bennett, David Maharrey (Stacy) Alex Crook (Hannah Brooke), Larry Rucker (Angel), Elizabeth Bean, Ethan Bean, and 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way, brothers-and sisters-in-law Curtis Maharrey (Helen), David Maharrey (Linda) many nephews and nieces, and her Shearer-Richardson family whom she and her family express great appreciation.
