Delilah Grigsby Hennessee Mecke departed this life for her heavenly home on August 25, 2023, at 83 years of age.
Born to the late Lloyd and Frankie Mae Grigsby, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Mecke; son, Steven Hennessee (father William); stepson, William Russell Hennessee; brother, Junior Grigsby; sister-in-law, Carolyn Grigsby; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Mecke.
Survivors include her son, Robert “Bob” Hennessee (Donna Brown); stepdaughter, Susan Hennessee Ciambella; daughter-in-law, Judy Hennessee; three grandchildren, Ashley Bixler (Mike), Ali Jones (Andy), and Hagen Hennessee; four great-grandchildren, Parker and Carson Jones and Cypress and Magnolia Bixler; brother, Jesse Grigsby (Pamela); sisters, Kathy Turbyfill (Tommie) and Debra Peck (Johnny); brothers-in-law, Charlie Mecke (Beth) and David Mecke; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Delilah lived a full and nurturing life. She worked 20 years at Tourway Pancake House where she honed her cooking skills and mastered the recipe for her famous yeast rolls. One of her greatest joys in life was to cook for any and every occasion for her family and friends. From chocolate gravy and poke salad to “Karmel” and “Coconutty” cakes, she poured her heart and soul into her food and everyone could feel it. Delilah never met a stranger. Her demeanor and love for others was incomparable and undeniable. Known with great affection and admiration by her nieces and nephews as “Aunt Luce”, she was a ray of light that will never fade.
Pallbearers will be Hagen Hennessee, Mike Bixler, Andy Jones, Jason Grigsby, Jeremy Grigsby, and Brett Battles. Honorary Pallbearers, David Matthews, Cooper Bishop and Christian Johnson
Visitation will be today from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with service to follow at Williams Chapel in Florence. The service will be officiated by Bro. Tim Grigsby. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
