Decatur Teen dies In Sunday Shooting; Three Juveniles Charged With Robbery And Murder

DECATUR-Decatur Police arrived on the scene of a shooting on Sunday morning where they found one juvenile suffering a gunshot wound.  Authorities say the 14-year-old male, who was in possession of a pistol was asked to meet at 21st Ave. SE by  3 acquaintances, two 14-year-olds and a 13-year-old.
During the meeting another juvenile, 15 appeared with a firearm and tried to rob the 14-year-old with the gun.  The boy pulled his pistol and shot the fifth juvenile.  According to investigators the boy said it was in self-defense.  The victim was transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital for treatment, where he died after being admitted.

Three juveniles involved in the incident were charged with murder and robbery and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Tuscumbia. Due to their ages, names will not be released.

Police say additional charges are pending.

 

Decatur Police statement:
“On October 9, 2022, at approximately 6:42 a.m., officers with the Decatur Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Pennylane SE in reference to a shooting involving juveniles.
Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate.”
