Decatur Police Arrest Suspect For Passing $100.00 Counterfeit Bills

DECATUR-The Decatur Police have been working an ongoing case of a woman passing counterfeit $100.00 bills. Decatur Police have issued a statement on an arrest in the case:

“On May 23rd, 2016, at approximately 5:30pm, a black female entered the Waffle House restaurant, located at 710 6th Ave NE. She requested change for a $100.00 bill, and she presented a counterfeit $100.00 bill. She received change back, and immediately left the restaurant before the employees of Waffle House were able to call the Police.


That same day at approximately 5:45pm, the same female went to Subway, located at 2614 6th Ave SE. She also requested change for another $100.00 bill. She presented another counterfeit $100.00, that had the same serial number of the first bill. She received change back and immediately left the restaurant, before the employees were able to call the Police.
Det. Selby De Leon with the Decatur Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit was assigned to the case. During the course of the investigation, Det. De Leon requested the assistance of the public and the media. The Decatur Police Department received calls through the tip line, as well as calls from other Law Enforcement Agencies, identifying the female as Deanedra Shardae Townsend.


On July 20th 2016, Det. De Leon obtained two warrants for Deanedra for the charges of Criminal Possession of Forged Instrument in the First Fegree.


On July 25th, 2016, at approximately 1:25am, Deanedra was released from the Madison County jail, where she was incarcerated on unrelated charges. She was transported to the Decatur Police Department, where she was booked in on the warrants. She was then transferred to the Morgan County jail in lieu of $5,000.00 bond.”
