DECATUR– Decatur Morgan County Tourism will debut its new social media video series, “The Unknown,” on Oct. 23, 2020. The approximate three minute show focuses on hidden secrets, ghoulish legends, history and folklore and other aspects of what makes Decatur and Morgan County unlike anywhere else.
“We hope this new series will share some unknown secrets and entertaining accounts of the city’s storied past and will entice visitors to come to Decatur and Morgan County,” said Decatur Morgan County Tourism President and CEO Danielle Gibson. “The episodes are short, fun and entertaining. While a picture is worth a thousand words, these short videos will leave a much more lasting impression of who our community is and what makes it a compelling place to visit.”
Produced and filmed by Decatur Morgan County Tourism, The Unknown will take viewers to a variety of places in Decatur, Morgan County and surrounding areas. The first three legends and locations to be featured are:
- Haunted happenings at the Princess Theatre – The Princess Theatre has more than a century of history and began life as a livery stable. Who knows? There might be some stable boys and actors lingering in the nooks and crannies here.
- The Alabama White Thang at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge – The White Thang is said to stand nine feet tall. Some say he is real; some say this is a legend.
- Hidden tunnels under Old Decatur – Tennessee Valley Pecan Company has been said to be haunted. Could there be tunnels? When taking photos, visitors never know what they will see. Is that a shadow, or is that a ghost?
The first three episodes can be viewed beginning October 23, 2020, at https://www.decaturcvb.org/ and on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.
