Debra Pride Hurt

DEBRA PRIDE HURT was born on February 26, 1958, to the late John L. Pride and Minnie Otis Pride in Florence, Alabama.

She confessed to Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Zion AME Church.

She graduated from UNA in 1982 to pursue her career as a Registered Nurse. She felt her purpose on earth was to counsel and care for others. Every assignment was from God. She was able to spread her TLC throughout the world to patients in AL, TN, VA, Ohio and Texas. Her dreams were fulfilled at the end of her career as she certified high school students as Pharmacy Technicians, Certified Nursery Assistants and Certified Medical Assistants. She worked at many hospitals, medical clinics, nursed at a county jail, school nurse, public health nurse, and education with Public School System. She won Health Science Teacher of the Year in 2019-2020 for the Regional and State of Texas. After 39 years, she retired on June 1, 2022 from the Houston Independent School District.

She was a member of the American Nursing Association and Health Occupation Students of America. During her 39 years of service, she led many students to the State and International HOSA competition. She’s received many awards for the Blood Drive and student performance.

She will forever be a member of Delta Sigma Theta!

She LOVED being a mother to her son Desmond Hurt.

Mrs. Debra Hurt was kind, beautiful, driven, influential, prestigious and dreamed big. She was important.

She was preceded in death by both parents, John L. Pride and Minnie Otis Pride, sister Roslyn Pride, and brother Wade Pride.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her son Desmond Hurt, Queens, NY; Brothers James Thompson(Louise-deceased), Toledo, Ohio, Dalton Thompson (Florida), Harvest, AL, Leonard Thompson(Vivian), Phoenix, AZ, Steve Thompson, Tuscumbia, AL, Cedric Pride, Sheffield, Al, Greg Pride(Traci), Muscle Shoals, AL Doug Pride, Sheffield, AL; Sisters: Lenora Pride, Tuscumbia, AL and Regina (Daryl) Hawkins, Talbott, TN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

All donations go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Cancer Society as well as the Pancreatic PanCAN Organization.
