Deborah Thompson McLaughlin, 71, passed away on June 29 at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care. She had a peaceful transition, surrounded by her family. Deborah was born in Florence, Alabama to Emmitt and Grace Thompson. She graduated from Coffee High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in Sociology at the University of North Alabama, making her the first college graduate in her family. She also completed a Master of Science in Education from Alabama A&M.
In 1979, she married Raymond McLaughlin. Deborah was a beloved teacher to many students at Whitesburg Elementary School. However, she would say that her most important job was her role as mom to her sons Andy and Robbie. Deborah loved to travel, especially to the beach. She enjoyed shopping for a bargain and always dressed for the occasion. She had a great sense of humor and was adored by her many friends. She was a member of First United Methodist Church if Huntsville. Her family finds comfort knowing that Deborah had a strong relationship with God and had faith that there is life beyond our earthly existence.
Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Lenard, sister, Joyce, and husband, Raymond. She is survived by her sons, Andy (Lynsey) and Robbie (McKell).
A memorial service celebrating Deborah will be on held July 8 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Huntsville.
