Debbie Plunk, a cherished educator and beloved member of the Adamsville community, passed away on October 6, 2024, in her hometown of Adamsville, Tennessee. Born on August 4, 1960, in Savannah, Tennessee, she dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching at Adamsville Elementary School, where she inspired countless children with her passion for learning and her dedication to their success.
A proud graduate of Adamsville High School in 1978, Debbie was known for her spirited participation in athletics, particularly in 3-on-3 basketball, where she played defense for four years. Her talent and determination shone brightly when, during her one moment on offense, she scored two points—an event so surprising that it halted the game momentarily! She later pursued a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Middle Tennessee State University, graduating in 1982.
Debbie’s legacy in education extended beyond the classroom. She was deeply involved in the Adamsville Cardinals athletics programs and contributed significantly to the Lady Cardinals basketball staff for many years. Her commitment to service was evident in her active participation in the Adamsville Angel Tree Gifts Program and her volunteer work at the Adamsville Methodist Church Come & Go Kitchen. Debbie was also a dedicated member of the Adamsville First Christian Church and the Dixie Chapter #115 Order of the Eastern Star.
Debbie is survived by her two brothers, Randy Plunk and his wife Tina of Bolivar, Tennessee, and Rusty Plunk and his wife Jeanette of Adamsville, Tennessee. She is also lovingly remembered as “sissy” by her three nephews: Jake Plunk and his wife Jaydin of Trenton, Tennessee, Dalton Plunk and his wife Darby of Adamsville, Tennessee, and Clint Plunk and his wife Caitlin of Bolivar, Tennessee, as well as a great-niece, Paizlee Plunk of Trenton, Tennessee, and three great-nephews: Nash Plunk and Hunter Plunk, both of Trenton, Tennessee, and Owen Plunk of Adamsville, Tennessee.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Wallace and Betty Jane Snodgrass Plunk. She was truly a friend to all, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her, from the friends she grew up with to those she met in high school and college. Debbie always referred to her students and former students as “her kids.” She loved her family, friends, and students dearly!
Debbie’s contributions to her community and the lives she touched will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew her.
