Deanna Hope Smith, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family on July 26th, 2024.
Deanna was born to Oscar Newton Nicholson and Goldie Elizabeth Hayes on September 11th, 1939, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She grew up in Maryville, Tennessee and spent the majority of her life raising her Children and caring for her family in Huntsville, Alabama. She was a cherished member of her community and an award-winning travel agent who also served as a world tour guide and travel expert. Deanna was a long-time member of Whitesburg Baptist Church, where she participated actively in community and spiritual life. She also enjoyed many other hobbies such as volunteer work at her local polls, gardening, baking, and traveling which she continued after retirement.
Deanna is survived by two children, Jonas Keith Fowler Jr. and Dana Fowler May; stepchildren, Julia Ann Smith and Donald Errol Smith; and grandson, Petty Officer Kevin Daniel May; daughter-in-law, Sandra Fowler; son-in-law, Danny R. May; granddaughter-in-law, Rachel May; sisters-in-law, Francis and Lorna Nicholson; and many nieces and nephews. Deanna was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Erroll Smith Sr.; her parents, Goldie and Oscar Nicholson; her brothers, Benjamin and Devon; and sister Delores.
Deanna’s life was a testament to the beauty of a life well lived, the lives she touched, and the love she shared. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will bloom eternally in the hearts of those she has left behind.
A visitation will be held on July 29th from 9:00-10:30 at Hampton Cove Funeral Home, 6262 US-431Owens Cross Roads, AL 35763. A Graveside service will immediately follow at 11:00 at Maple Hill Cemetery, 203 Maple Hill Street, Huntsville Alabama with Reverend Rick Stone officiating.
