David Wendell Black, 79 of Arab Alabama, died Monday, January 2, 2017 at Marshall Medical Center North.
Mr. Black was born September 24, 1937 in Blount County Alabama to Dallas W. Black and Claudia Phillips Black. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Civil Service where he worked as a procurement clerk. Mr. Black was married to the former Doris Rebecca Bright for 56 years. He loved music and playing the fiddle. He played at various events and with his group the Golden Strings. His last performance was at Arab First Baptist Church this past December during their Christmas program.
He was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife of 56 years: Doris B. Black; a sister: Sue Borden; step brothers and step sisters-in-law: Clarence and Jan Bagwell and J.D. and Sandra Bagwell; step sister and step brother-in-law: Martha and O’Neal Kelley. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dallas and Claudia Black; his sisters: Maxine Maze, Royce Dean Maze and Hazel Haney; step sisters: Iva Bagwell, Doris Holaway, Melba Ruth Bodine and Mary Smith.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday January 5, 2017 at Sweet Home Baptist Church with Brothers: Ryan Childers and Tim Lynch, officiating. Burial will be in Brookwood Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Richard Maze, Larry Haney, Lanny Haney, Rickey Berry, Ferron Holaway and Jim Dunnagan.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday January 5, 2017 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. He will also lie-in-state at Sweet Home Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
