David Scott SouthersDavid Scott Southers, 72, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, in Germantown, TN, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Scott’s family and Catholic faith were his greatest loves and source of strength. This is exemplified by his nearly forty-nine year marriage to his wife, Ruthie, and the way they grew together in love and faith throughout the years. He volunteered his time to many of his children’s activities in their youth, including coaching baseball, serving as an active member of the Athens Band Parents Association and supporting them in their Catholic faith as a Sunday school teacher. As a Papa, he attended dance recitals, craft fairs and sporting events, always showing up for his grandchildren and loudly cheering them on.

Scott took great satisfaction in giving his all to any job he held. From his service in the United States Navy, selling insurance & then cars for Saturn of Huntsville, to his time on the custodial staff of Athens City Schools, Scott treated every role with pride and a meticulous attention to detail. His friendly demeanor made him an invaluable member of all work teams he was part of.

Scott is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth Southers; his daughters, Kelli DeMoville (Josh) and Darbi Padbury (Blair); and his grandchildren, Lexi and Amelia DeMoville, and Everett, Vera, and Avis Padbury. He looked forward to being reunited in heaven with his son, Matthew, his parents and his two older brothers, whose memories he cherished deeply.
