David was born on January 7, 1934 in Williamson County to the late Dewey Poynor and the late Mattie Sudberry Poynor. He was a longtime resident of the Theta Community. He attended Theta Church of Christ. For many years, he served as a deacon at Beech Grove Church of Christ, being a faithful and hardworking member. David was 1953 graduate of Spring Hill High School and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1957 – 1959. He began his mechanical career with L.D. Warf in Franklin, Tennessee and later worked for Bill Miller. David served at Walker Chevrolet as a certified mechanic for 33 years; he was specialized in transmission and engine repairs. He was well known and sought after for his vast knowledge and years of experience for all of their automobile needs. David’s hands were never idle. Farming, raising cattle, and tinkering in his shop with the radio blasting to the oldies, were some of his favorite things to do. David was also an avid collector of antique bottles and was proud to show his collection to anyone interested. He also was an avid reader later in life and loved watching his Westerns on TV. Bird watching was something David also enjoyed as well as taking care of them. He really enjoyed a good joke and pulling a prank on someone.
In addition to his lifelong sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Judy, he is survived by his children, Joanna (Roger) Chandler, Shannon (Lisa) Poynor, Cheryl Bowers, Regina Poynor and Kelvin Poynor, grandchildren, Keifer Bowers, Shane Bowers, Katelyn Poynor and David Poynor, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
