David Monroe Blackburn, 93, died at Athens Limestone Hospital, Athens, AL on Sunday, July 26, 2020. All are welcome to attend a graveside service on Friday, July 31, at ten o’clock am at the Sardis Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. We ask that attendees observe appropriate physical distance during the service.

After serving churches in Kentucky and Alabama, David taught high school English and Social Studies at Hazel Green, AL. He was an avid hobby farmer, equestrian, and lover of books.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Smith Blackburn, and one daughter, Joan Ellen Vinson. His grandchildren and their families are Richard Vinson, his wife, Suzanne, and children, Joseph and Cora; David Vinson and his wife, Lindsey Hershner; and John Vinson. David is also survived by two brothers, Donald Blackburn and Billie Blackburn.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, Madison, AL, Sardis Springs Baptist Church, Athens, AL, or a charitable organization of your choice.
