David Louis Czachurski, 99, of Huntsville, passed away Monday. He was born in West Allis, Wisconsin, March 30, 1924, the son of the late Anthony B. and Nona C. Czachurski. He was a graduate of LaFayette High School, LaFayette, AL, Howard College (now Samford University), Birmingham, AL, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Battle of the Bulge and the conquest of Germany, where he earned the Purple Heart.
David was ordained as a Baptist minister at First Baptist Church, LaFayette, AL. His first position of service after seminary was as an assistant director of the Howard College Extension Division, serving south Alabama. He pastored several churches in Alabama and was an Alabama Baptist State Convention approved Adult Sunday School worker. He also taught high school math in Huntsville public schools.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence C. Hoelke; his brother, Edwin Bernard Czachurski; and his wife of over 70 years, Helen Judy Czachurski. Survivors include his daughter, Judy C. Stephenson (Rae); son, John D. Czachurski (Anita); five grandchildren, Elizabeth L. Stephenson, Rebecca S. Norton (James), Barbara M. Saunders (John), Adam P. Czachurski, and Anna C. McDermott (Mike); great-grandsons, John R. Jack Saunders IV and Coen M. McDermott; great-granddaughter, Hannah R. Norton; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, October 22 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Dr. Darryl Craft officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
