David Anderson David Lee Anderson, 78, went to his eternal home Monday, June 5, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born April 17, 1945, in New Albany to Hansel and Maurine Stroud Anderson. He grew up in New Albany and was a 1964 graduate of W. P. Daniel High School. After high school, he attended Northeast Mississippi Junior College and graduated from Blue Mountain College in 1970. He then did graduate work at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
In 1973, David moved to Tupelo and began a 40-year successful career in insurance. After working at Bankers Life and Casualty, he joined Mutual of Omaha in 1976, where he achieved a number of state, regional, and national awards. His production enabled him to attain the regional honor of Sales Masters Roundtable numerous times. He was the number one producer of group sales in the United States attaining him membership in Mutual of Omaha’s highest honor, Chairman’s Council, in 1977 and 1979. Following that he was co-owner of A&H Insurance Service and Premier Insurance Agency in Tupelo and retired in 2011.
David was an outdoor person and loved hunting, camping, and gathering firewood to build fires in his fire pit. He sat each morning watching his fire saying his prayers and drinking coffee. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sue, to each of the US states. A special interest was his mission trips to Central America and the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana and the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He particularly enjoyed delivering Christmas gifts to the little village of Birney, Montana.
When he moved to Tupelo in 1973 he became a member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Most recently he was a member of Hope Church in Tupelo. He was a 32nd degree Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents and half-sister Barbara Rogers.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Anderson; two sons, Bob Anderson (Catherine) of Madison and Brad Anderson (Mary) of Cave Creek, Arizona; three grandchildren, Margaret Aldin (Mark), Stephen Anderson (Madi), and Louis Anderson; and sister, Shelia Medlin (David).
Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023, and 10 a.m. until service time Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Scooter Nolan officiating. Graveside services will follow at Gaston Baptist Church Cemetery, Booneville.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Anderson, Louis Anderson, Mark Aldin, Danny Parker, Donald Mayo, and Rusty McCoy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Ford and Chris Seaborn.
