David E. SaurDavid E. Saur, aged 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at his residence in Fort Payne. He was born on November 9, 1942, in Sterling, Illinois, to the late Gail Saur and Florence Carrier Saur. David proudly served 5 years in the United States Army before embarking on a career path that led him to earn a degree in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University. He dedicated 29 years of service to U.S. Steel in Birmingham before his well-deserved retirement. David had a profound love for the outdoors, particularly sailing and fishing, which he joyously shared with his daughters and grandchildren. He was known for his kindness, selflessness, and unwavering love for his family, who affectionately called him “Poppy.”

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Wilson Funeral Home, followed by interment at Mt. Herman Cemetery. The family will be available to receive friends from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Smile-A-Mile or A-Team Ministries.

David is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 54 years, Sharon Stout Saur, his daughters Robin Murphy (Ron) and Lisa Cunningham (Patrick), his cherished grandchildren Katie Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Cara Murphy, Sam Cunningham, Luke Cunningham, and Zac Cunningham, as well as his sister Janice Gleason (Cliff).
