David D. Morris, 85, of Florence, passed June 25, 2024 at Huntsville Hospital. David was a multifaceted fella. Born of humble means on May 22, 1939 to Murriel and Wayne Morris. David was the middle child and only son of 3 with older sister, Crystal and younger sister, Doris. The 3 Morris kids were raised by their grandmother, affectionately known as Mamaw Morris, after the untimely death of Murriel when David was 3. Mamaw was a 4’10” powerhouse of a woman. David would tell stories about his childhood, working in the cotton fields and dreaming of the life to come. David was blessed with a son, Paul and a daughter, Karen from the first marriage and a second son Benjamin with his wife, Gail. David and Gail were married 37 years. He was a retired Ford UAW member, aka “Wildman.” He worked 19 years at the Muscle Shoals plant. David loved classic cars and trucks.
David was very creative and could fix almost anything. He was a talented artist in his younger days spending hours drawing pictures with his young daughter. He taught his oldest son to ride and enjoy motorcycles and later in life he did the same with his youngest son. When David became a grandfather for the first time, he wanted to be called Papaw, as his father was called Papaw as well. Young Matthew would try to say Papaw but it came out Popo. From then on David was fondly referred to as Pope. David loved to talk and he had a lot to say. He loved to watch old westerns and talk religion and politics. David was a big personality and man of big faith. He could tell bible stories and share verses with the most educated of scholars. The family takes great comfort in knowing David is home, healed and happy in the arms of Jesus.
