David Buell Evans peacefully passed into heavenly glory at his home Thursday May 5th surrounded by his family and friends after a long well-fought battle with ALS.

David was born Sep. 19, 1960, in Jogjakarta, Indonesia while his father was teaching abroad. His family moved back to Atlanta where he grew up. In 1982, he graduated from The Citadel in South Carolina with Lima Company with a physics degree, and later graduated from Mississippi State University in 1986 with a degree in aerospace engineering. He moved to Huntsville, AL where he met and married Carol McCallum on Nov. 23, 1991.

David spent his career working as a contractor to NASA supporting numerous space programs and later worked as a contractor for Army aviation.

He was active at Westminster Presbyterian Church and on the school board. He supported and encouraged his children in many activities, including Boy Scouts, swim teams, and the local rowing club. He loved to swim, hike, and travel with his family. He had a lifelong passion for managing and improving his family pine tree farm in southern MS.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Carol McCallum Evans; sons, 1Lt Bradley Evans of Los Angeles, CA and Michael Evans; daughter, Laura Evans; and sisters, Patricia Hilliard of Haymarket, VA and Margaret Rich of La Porte, IN.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 9th at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will be held the next day on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church followed by the burial at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church building fund, the ALS Association Alabama Chapter, or Bridging Voice, a speaking with disabilities support organization (bridgingvoice.org).
