Mr. Barkley passed away on Friday evening at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

A native of Hardeman County, he was the son of the late George Emmett Barkley and Lillie Pearl Shappley Barkley. He lived most of his life in Hardeman County except for some time in spent living in Mississippi with his grandparents. On May 31, 1976, he married Mary Van Hudson, who survives.

Mr. Barkley worked as a meat cutter, having owned and worked for several stores in Hardeman County. He also had worked 5 years as a foreman at F. L. Crane & Sons manufacturing shipping crates.

David was a member of the Middleton Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for over 10 years. He had a deep, abiding faith in his Lord, whom he loved dearly and was a faithful student of the Lord’s Word, studying it daily. He especially loved teaching his Sunday Bible class and his church family.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed to garden and spend time outdoors. In his younger years, Mr. Barkley was fond of fishing and hunting. Spending time with is beloved grandchildren, his “babies”, was his most favorite past-time.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Joey Barkley and his wife, Christina, of Murfreesboro; his three sisters, Donna Carver and her husband, Bennie, of Covington, Jo Doss and husband, George, of Middleton and Rhonda Carver and her husband, R. E. of Ashland, MS; his brother, Bill Barkley and wife, Nancy, of Falkner, MS; and his two grandchildren, Mikayla and Mattie Barkley.

Besides his parents, Mr. Barkley was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Wilbanks.
