David B. Beasley, 80, of Florence, Alabama, passed away on February 24, 2025.
David was born on July 8, 1944, and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Samford University in Birmingham and later obtained a Masters’ degree in Personnel Management from Troy State University.
A man of deep faith, David was ordained as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Talladega. He was a long-time member of Highland Baptist Church, where he served a term as Sunday School Superintendent. In his final years, he was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Florence, AL, where he greatly enjoyed hearing and proudly bragging about Ellen’s Sunday School lessons.
David dedicated his professional life to hospital pharmacy. As a Registered Pharmacist, he established the pharmacy at Citizens Hospital in Talladega, serving as Director of Pharmacy. He later worked as a staff pharmacist at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Montgomery before becoming the Pharmacy Director at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. From 1983 to 1999, David served as the Pharmacy Director at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, AL. He was highly respected in his field, serving as President of the Alabama Society of Hospital Pharmacists in 1981 and being named Hospital Pharmacist of the Year in 1986. He was an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Fellow and was certified as a Geriatric Pharmacist.
Beyond his career, David was an active member of Kiwanis International. He served as Lt. Governor of Division 2 for two years, Alabama District Lt. Governor, and President of the Florence Kiwanis Club. His proudest accomplishment was serving as the Alabama Coordinator of the Eliminate Program, an initiative to eradicate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus in developing countries. His dedication to this cause was a reflection of his lifelong commitment to making a meaningful impact on the world. In 2013, he authored History of the Kiwanis Club of Florence, Alabama.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ellen; his oldest son, Mark (Kim); son, Russ; daughter, Carol Beth (Dan); and his five grandchildren, Matt, Ellie Hope, Alex, Abbie, and Jacob, who affectionately called him “GeePa.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Merida Beasley, and his sister, Carolyn Jones.
David found great joy in spending time with his family at their 97-acre farm in Zip City, AL—his happy place. Whether tending to blueberries, clearing fence rows, target shooting with his grandchildren, or enjoying a fire in the primitive cabin, David treasured every moment on “The Farm.” When not outdoors, he could often be found in his leather room, crafting journal covers, belts, and holsters with custom stamping. A dedicated historian, he spent much of the 1990s and early 2000s researching and documenting the family genealogy. He and Ellen were also proud benefactors of the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Kevin Johnson.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Cemetery, Montgomery, AL.

David will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his faith, and his dedication to serving others. His legacy of kindness, leadership, and devotion to making the world a better place will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
