On July 23, 2024, at 3:16 pm, David passed peacefully at his horse farm in Athens, Alabama surrounded by his loving family that was the center of his world – his incredible wife, best friend and endless love, Myra, and his two fantastic children Eliza and Alexander.
David was born and raised in Milford Massachusetts, the son of Guerino and Elizabeth (Paulette) Guido and the youngest of six. He enlisted in the Army at 16 and went to Basic Training at 17 after graduation from Milford HS 1979.
After completing a four-year enlistment, he attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he earned his bachelor’s degree and was Commissioned in the US Army as an Armor Officer in 1986. He was recognized as a Distinguished Military Student.
Over the next 30 years he would serve in Armor and Infantry units as well as serving as a Public Affairs Officer, a Military Historian and in Washington DC, in Strategic Plans and Policy.
During these three decades, he would be called to serve in both the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Office of the Secretary of the Army.
He would also participate as a military member in the Presidential inaugurals of both Presidents Ronald W. Reagan and George H. W. Bush.
Before retiring in 2015, and while serving at the US Army Armor School at Fort Benning GA, he deployed in 2014 to Afghanistan with the US Army 75th Ranger Regiment and served as the Commander of a SOAT (Special Operations Advisory Team) for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
During his 36 plus years of service he would receive multiple awards for his service at State, Army and Joint level assignments. His most prized award, however, was the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal he received for serving as a Cubmaster at Fort Benning.
David served as a Cubmaster in both Virginia and Georgia and was awarded the Scouters Key by BSA.
He was a loving and devoted Son, Brother, Husband, Father, and Friend.
The visitation for LTC. Guido will be Monday, July 29, 2024, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. His burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
