Mr. Danny Ross Johnson, age 77, of Vernon, AL, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024, at Generations of Vernon.

Danny Ross was born November 7, 1946, in Fayette, AL, to the late Homer and Gena Wright Johnson, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Zahlman.  He was a 1965 graduate of Lamar County High School where he played football as a running back for the Vernon Bulldogs.  He later got a vocational tech certificate and was a foreman for General Tire.  Danny Ross never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone who knew him.  He enjoyed fishing, cooking, being with his friends, and most of all, being with his family.  To know Danny Ross was to love him.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 3, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Keith Pennington officiating.  A graveside service will follow at the Shiloh Methodist Cemetery in the Hightogy Community.  Visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00-8:00 PM.

Survivors include one daughter, Haley (Heath) Pennington, of Vernon, AL; one son, John Ross Johnson, of Vernon, AL; two grandchildren, Brooklyn and Kye Pennington; his special companion, Carolyn Eastman, of Sulligent, AL; his niece, Lisa Wood, of Carpentersville, IL; and special family members, John and Suella Matthews and William and Kay Turner.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the LCHS Athletic Department, 8990 Highway 18, Vernon, AL 35592.
