I’ve spent the last 10 weeks talking to citizens about running for mayor and listening to their views, concerns and issues. It was most important to hear from them before making a formal announcement.
My adult life has been devoted to service and protection of others. For over 21 years, I have owned and operated a pest control company, servicing new home construction, and existing homes. In addition to marrying and raising a family, I entered the field of law enforcement where I have also worked for the last 17 years while maintaining the business. Currently, I am on leave from the Muscle Shoals Police Department and devoting full time to meeting and listening to the citizens as I canvas neighborhoods door to door.
What I have learned from listening to people in the community is that Muscle Shoals is a unique city as I have always believed it to be and they want to see a change. The need to recruit businesses for a greater quality of life is evident in the lack of restaurants and shopping. Additional industries and manufacturing facilities are needed for secure and stable employment.
Comprehensive Flood Mitigation is essential now more than ever as we have seen increased displacement of flood waters due to development trends. Short and Long-range strategic plans utilizing engineering and financial experts will be critical as we address the allocation of existing tax dollars without raising taxes on the good people of this city.
A Police Substation in the Steenson Hollow community will enhance the safety and response time while supporting the existing Fire Department services in that area. I will work with every level of government to ensure we are operating in the most efficient manner in planning and delivering services. I believe we need to offer recreational opportunities to our citizens and guests that visit the area to explore our many historic sites.
As your Mayor, I will continue to listen, respond to your needs, and be accessible. There will be full disclosure of finances and budgeting. Our city workers and staff will be respected and rewarded for their dedicated service to maintaining a good quality of life you deserve.
I am Danny McMillin, and I humbly ask for your vote on August 25th. I promise to maintain an open door policy and serve with honor and integrity.
