Danny Lynn McDonald, age 81 of Decherd, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Alive Hospice Hospital of Nashville. Born in Sewanee, TN to the late Fess McDonald and Hallie McDonald (Austin), Danny had a happy childhood growing up in Cowan, TN. After graduating from Franklin County High School, Danny attended radio school in Atlanta, Ga and spent the 60’s and 70’s as a radio announcer for both WCDT and WZYX. After leaving radio, he spent 21 years with Cowan Stone Company and retired from MTEK as Safety Director. Danny spent his retirement years working part time at Walmart and as a substitute aide at Franklin County High School.
In his leisure time, Danny enjoyed sharp shooting, deer hunting, camping, vacationing in the West, and for many years attending Nascar races. He most enjoyed spending time with the love of his life Nancy, and with his two grandsons, Dalton and Dylan. Fondly known as Pappy, he rarely missed an opportunity to attend school programs or the chance to entertain his grandsons with board games, bowling, or visiting local carnivals. He will be remembered as being kind, generous, strong-willed, and having a good sense of humor. He loved and respected the great outdoors & could often be found walking or driving around one of his cherished pets.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Lee McDonald Denney. Mr. McDonald is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Nancy Keese McDonald, his daughter, Danna (Darren) Cox, his grandsons, Dalton and Dylan Cox, and his lifelong best friend, BW Wiseman as well as many extended family members. Special thank you to Dr Tiffany Hines, Charter of Franklin Assisted Living, and Alive Hospice of Nashville for their loving care these past two years.
