Danny Carlan Copeland, age 69 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Tennessee State Veteran’s Home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee after a long illness.
Danny was born December 9, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army. He returned home from Vietnam in August 1967 and met his future wife very shortly after. Danny and the former Susan Annette Boshers were married on May 23, 1970. They celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary just three weeks ago with lots of grins and hugs.
On October 9, 1973, they welcomed their only child, daughter Heather Anne Copeland. On December 5, 1998, Danny was honored to walk Heather down the aisle to marry Michael Shawn Berryhill.
Danny and Susan became instant grandparents to grandson Tyler Colby Berryhill. On September 21, 2005, they became grandparents again to the miracle granddaughter Reagan Carlan Berryhill.
Other survivors include his mother Ethridge Copeland; brothers Bobby and Timmy; two nephews; three nieces; four grandnieces; and four grandnephews.
Danny was preceded in death by his father Charlie Lee Copeland.
Danny was a proud member of the Hay Long High School graduating Class of 1964. He enjoyed each and every reunion the class had, whether a small group or a large group. In August 2014, the fiftieth year reunion was held. Danny was unable to attend but he asked his wife and daughter to attend and bring back pictures.
Danny worked at Menasha Corp – “The Box Plant” – from 1968 opening until closing its doors. Danny also played and coached softball in Mt. Pleasant with some of the best players in the state being a part of his teams.
Danny has many special friends from High School, U.S. Army, Menasha, and softball. Danny will be greatly missed by these friends.
The family will visit with friends on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Frank Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery with honors provided by the United States Army.
Pallbearers will be Gary Flippo, Claude LeMay, Tyler Boshers, Phillip Copeland, Tanner Copeland, and Pete Russell.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the 1964 Hay Long High School graduating class, his buddies from Vietnam, many of whom he stayed in contact with all through the years, fellow workers of Menasha, and fellow softball players and coaches.
Susan and Heather wish to say Thank You to all the staff of the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro for taking care of Danny the last year of his life, especially Estella, Pam, Monica, Lauren, Gerald, Cutis, Kenneth, Nash, Ashley, Aurora, Sonia, Jennifer, and Melanie.
Thank you also for all the thoughts, prayers, and inquires as to Danny’s health, they mean more than you can imagine.
