Daniel Dean James, age 84, of Florence, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023. Arrangements will be announced at a later date.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bertha James; brother, Doug James; sister, Doris Grimes.
Survivors are his wife, Caroline James; daughter, Tina McDaniel (Jason); grandchildren, Brittney and Justus McDaniel; great-grandchildren, Briley and Brindley Rowlett.
Poppi, as everyone called him, was born November 8, 1939. At age eighteen years old, he was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa resulting in blindness. Despite the “Nuisance” as he called it, he continued to live life to the fullest. He and Caroline worshiped at River Road Church of Christ for over 30 years. He was a member of the muscle Shoals Lions Club for many years. He even served a term as president. Other hobbies included working on lawn mowers, woodwork, playing guitar, listening to audio books, ham radio, and spending time with family and friends.
He was the kindest, most loving generous Poppi. He had a keen sense of humor. He was loved and will be missed by many.

In-lieu of flowers, family has requested donations be made to Childhaven Orphanage in Cullman, Alabama. Williams Funeral Home is directing.
