Daniel Cannady, age 79, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, at Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehab.

Daniel was born September 20, 1939, in Nashville, TN, the son of the late John Daniel Cannady and Margaret Frances Smith Cannady. Daniel served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corps as an aircraft mechanic. Daniel was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in aerial flight while serving with the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 161, Provisional Marine Aircraft Group Thirty-Nine, First Marine Aircraft Wing. Upon discharge, he had reached the rank of Sgt. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the DAV.

Daniel and his wife, Doris Piggott Cannady were married for 47 years. He was completely devoted to his dear Doris, making sure that her needs were met. He made sure that each birthday and anniversary were made special for her by having her favorite meal or a special gift.

Daniel was a very giving person and regularly supported the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project, Paralyzed Veterans of American and St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital.

A service for Daniel will be conducted Tuesday, August 20 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Chaplain Eddie Rogers officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. Daniel will be interred in the Middle Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery in Nashville at a later date.
