Daniel Butler McKinney, 55, passed away at his residence in Amory on September 15, 2024. He was born in Amory on December 28, 1968 to William and Judy Ritter McKinney. Dan was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1987. He also attended Itawamba Community College and Mississippi State University. Dan was a field tech for Insulation Sales where he fabricated and installed commercial and industrial insulation. From the time Dan was born, he started spending time at the family cabin at the Nettleton Fox Hunting and Fishing Association Club Land and for the last 20 years, he was blessed to live on the club land. At a young age he began to develop a lifelong love for being in the outdoors and became an accomplished hunter. He killed several trophy Whitetail Deer, numerous squirrel and other small game. The Nettleton Fox Hunting and Fishing Association Club Land was a special place for Dan as he knew each hill and holler. He loved spending time cooking, visiting and hunting with all of the club members. Dan was also a master angler, catching boatloads of catfish along the Tenn Tom Waterway, Tombigbee River and Town Creek. As much as he loved to catfish, it was crappie that gave him his biggest thrill. Dan was an old school crappie fisherman and never considered using the newest technology to crappie fish with. Not only was Dan an accomplished hunter and fisherman, he was an expert pool player. He knew the game so well and was so skilled that many would not play him in a game. In the early 1990’s he even played on the Professional Pool Circuit. If you knew Dan, you knew that he was successful at anything he set his mind to from learning calligraphy and bird species at at young age to pool, hunting and fishing in his middle years, and to just enjoying life, nature, family and friends in his later years. Dan was self taught and a self reliant person who forged his own way. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Amory.
