Dana was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. Her smile was contagious. She made friends everywhere she went. If it wasn’t for her lack of hair, you’d never known she was a warrior in battle against stage IV Metastatic ‘Breast Cancer. By her 48th birthday, this warrior of a woman had lined up to battle cancer no fewer three times. Yes, three times. She first battled Lymphoma at the young age of 12 and it was at this young age, she resolved to become a nurse herself. A good and caring nurse. By becoming a nurse, she reasoned, she’d be able to live a life dedicated to serving others. Her strong will to live, and unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through the past two years of Grueling chemotherapy. Yet, even throughout her own struggles, she reached out to help others affected by this horrendous disease. As recent as October 2018, she spoke to groups to give her personal testament. Throughout her life, she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith in Jesus Christ.
Mark and Dana, happily married 25 years, together they raised two children, Jacob and Gracie Beth. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Dana faithfully cared for family and friends. A woman of strong faith and the heart of the Butler family, Dana shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example. Dana was a registered nurse for 25 years, receiving her BSN from UNA. She always spoke fondly of her years working in labor and delivery. She loved watching new life enter the world, families in a time of happiness and transcendence. If you desire to know how wonderful a nurse Dana really was, read the nightingale tribute. She embodied every single word you’ll read. “In the excitement and miracle of birth or in the mystery and loss of life, she was there.” Relatives left to cherish her memory. Those who preceded her in death, baby Benjamin Evans Butler; father, Jim Cryer and stepfather James Coggin.
